Sam Pavelka is a High School Science teacher in Minooka, IL. He is married to a wonderful woman name Cheryl who is pregnant with their second child and due in October. Sam and Cheryl already have a daughter named Taylor who is currently two years old.
Sam already battled cancer eight years ago as a twenty year-old college student. He was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma and underwent a year of chemotherapy and surgery to remove the tumor. The surgery and chemo were a success and Sam was able to move on with his life as a cancer survivor!
Unfortunately, he started having back pain two months ago at the beginning of his summer break. He immediately felt that the cancer was back and after going to the doctor and receiving an MRI and bone scan, it showed that the same cancer has returned.
He is now entering the third of his eleven scheduled chemo treatments. With his wife due in October he is worried about when the doctors will elect to have the surgery to remove the tumor. He is a phenomenal friend and a great teacher who inspires all his students. I hope you are willing to help this tremendous family out as Sam will be out of work for a year as well as Cheryl who will be on maternity leave as well as taking care of Sam.
